Opening Doors - Open House 2025

My submission for the Design the Poster competition for Open House Athens 2025 explored three distinct visual directions, alongside additional poster and Facebook banner applications. The first—and my strongest concept—translates the idea of an open door into a visual invitation to exploration and discovery. The second and third concepts take a more typographic approach, with the third incorporating the Open House logo as a central graphic element. Red for Athens and turquoise for Thessaloniki were used to give each city its own visual character while keeping the concepts connected.

Personal Notes & Reflection

This project was an exercise in designing under pressure. The main challenge was creating posters that shared one visual identity while still representing two very different cities, Athens and Thessaloniki. The first concept actually began away from my screen: I walked through both cities photographing doors of old and abandoned buildings, which eventually became the inspiration for the idea of opening a door to discovery.

. With a limited timeframe, the creative process became much more spontaneous than planned. The three directions came together surprisingly late, forcing me to trust my instincts, make decisions quickly, and explore very different solutions to the same brief. It was slightly chaotic, definitely stressful, but ultimately a valuable reminder that sometimes a deadline leaves very little room for overthinking—and that is not always a bad thing.
